A group of ten sentenced of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for carrying out the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.

The those on trial faced allegations of circulating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to making malicious remarks about the couple's 24-year age gap.

The court delivered suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the convicted individuals. The complete verdict has still to be made public.

A circulating unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.

This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons initiating a defamation lawsuit in the United States against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the first lady's gender.

Their lawsuit states that Owens disregarded any factual proof that refuted her assertions opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.

Owens has often echoed these allegations on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.

Brigitte Macron initially encountered her now-husband when she taught at his secondary school.

The pair married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
