Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the team enter places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.

Fans can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
