Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden championship since the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since spring of that year.

Success also means he has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's counter-punching play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had caused observers to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an better serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent saved 4 initial chances in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
